About me
Shavonda Quinn
As a proud girl mom to my daughter, I’m grateful for the journey that has brought me to where I am today. My daughter inspired me to become a Certified Lactation Consultant, International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant, and a Doula. I also serve as a peer counselor at the local health department, supporting new and expectant moms in the Women, Infant, and Children (WIC) program.
My passion for breastfeeding began when I was pregnant with my daughter. I wanted to give her the best possible start in life, and I believed breast milk was the way to do so. Although I had family support, I lacked professional guidance, leading to a trial-and-error approach to breastfeeding. Despite the challenges, I successfully breastfed my daughter for a year and a half.
Reflecting on my experience, I realize that professional help would have made a significant difference. This realization drives my desire to provide new moms with a better breastfeeding experience than I had. My personal journey hasn’t been easy; I experienced a devastating loss in my first pregnancy in 2006 and a challenging second pregnancy that ended in an unnecessary cesarean birth. However, I’m grateful my daughter is here, and I’ve since learned the value of having a doula’s support. My experience is what aspire me to become a doula.
Through my education at the University of Southern Mississippi (Bachelor’s in Healthcare Administration) and Walden University (Master’s in Healthcare Education), I’ve become dedicated to empowering new mothers with the knowledge and support they need to succeed in their breastfeeding journey.
